Raluca Ghideanu

Born in 1981 in Iasi, completes the ”George Apostu” High-School of Arts Bacau in 1999, after which she attends the National University of Arts Bucharest, department of sculpture, class of Professor Paul Vasilescu, and obtains the Master’s Degree in visual arts within the same university, in the class of Professor Mircea Spataru. The diploma paper with the title “Gara de Nord via Piata Muncii” , composed of four full size human sculptures of fiberglass, travels by subway in Bucharest for 4 days and is among the first public art works in the country. The dissertation entitled “Uman” is a speech about the inner state and external appearances of the human character. Her bi-dimensional, large sized sculptures, are usually cut up of wood or metal. The surface remains calm, uniformly coloured, the only thing revealing their feelings being their external shape. Painted in vivid colours, they are elongated, distorted, in a continuous search for their halves and themselves.2010 starts to make scenography and costumes for experimental shows and performances with the ArtDetox group. The searches in the field of interior and object design also start now.2011 exhibits alongside the greatest contemporary Romanian sculptors in Iasi within the “El camino Sacral” exhibition.2011 The “Prison of Life” series, exhibited at the “Palatele Brancovenesti” Cultural Centre, speaks about the prisons we live in; the prison of society, of things past and the harshest prison …. the prison of our own minds.

2012 “Sale for the rest of me” at the Art Yourself Gallery brings together all previous works in an extensive personal exhibition. Also in 2012 one of the works in the “Prison of life” series finds a permanent exhibition space in the garden of Muzeul Taranului Roman (The Romanian Peasant Museum).

2013 together with the opening of the Alchemia Gallery launches the series of lighting fixtures “Lights of life”. She aims to take out and bring light from the most unexpected places. Experimental and ready-made materials are used, such as: old refrigerators, chairs, metal funnels, protective pipes, shower facilities, but also elements from nature: roots , branches and even whole trees. The lighting fixtures turn into colourful fixtures, filled with courage and creativity.

She has numerous publications in art and interior design magazines, appears in TV and radio shows. Her most recent works speak firstly about the courage to Re-Build, Re-Invent and Re-Use “Life”.
